The Bare Face Challenge, Naturally

Bare Face_001 S

I saw a challenge photo by Caitlin “Caity” Tobias on Flickr and I couldn’t resist. The hardest part for me was the “NO Photoshop!” rule. I’m dying to fix my nose, jaw, chin, neck and arm 😦 But other than cropping, I resisted…somehow!

It’s a fun challenge, and a simple one: take a close up wearing only your skin (hair is fine). No other makeup, no eyelashes, nuthin…just you. Hey, I didn’t cheat: I’m just smart enough to choose Hart Larsson as my skin maker, who included lipstick and eyeliner with my everyday skin 😉

Scroll through Flickr and you’ll see quite a few bare faces, all naturally very lovely. And maybe not as surprisingly as you might think.

Upside Down

1 Upside Down Bench

MixMatch is an interesting sales event. It may have been around for a while, but I only discovered it. The idea is you go to the event and buy the displayed item there, then you can go to the creator’s mainstore to purchase a complementary item at a discounted price. It’s a fun way to mix and match some cute stuff with the added benefit of getting you out of a sales event and into an actual store.

At the MixMatch event, you can find this quirky upside down bench from Kuro. It comes in three different textures – the wooden one I am showing her, plus pink and blue. It has TONS of animated poses and seats three. You can even swap which seat you want to sit in. Kind of a fun way to play musical chairs 🙂

1 Upside Down Chair

Once you’ve tired of that game, head on over to Kuro to pick up the matching chair. Having exhausted myself playing musical chairs alone, a nice relaxing rest while reading a book seemed the perfect ending.

On another note, even if you’re not interested in shopping you really should go to this event just to see the MixMatch venue. It is housed on the After 6 Days sim and is a touch surreal, a little bit avante garde and totally awesome!

(I was only joking about the not being interested in shopping part, of course!) 😉

Spring Forward, Fall Back

1 Autumn Blight3

It is the time of year when those of us who follow Daylight Savings Time start changing our clocks. Here in Australia, we did it this weekend. I, of course, forgot. Because it is our spring, that means moving the clock forward an hour. Yet after over 14 years in Australia, October still feels like it should be autumn.

The fall months have always been my favourite. The gradually cooling temperatures, the crisp and riotous colours of the changing leaves and the promise of longer nights to snuggle down into soft, comforting blankets are special moments of the season to me. It is a time of transition that speaks not of an ending, but of a beginning of seasonal festivities to be shared with friends and loved ones.

Here in Australia, that is all turned on its head. October brings springtime, new growth and bounteous blossoms, but also a rise of allergic reactions. I have already abandoned my woolly nightshirts for tee-shirts and open windows as I try to find a cool spot on the pillow when I lie down to sleep. When I dream, it is of bonfires, hay rides and mulled cider around an open fire. When I awake, it is to covers tossed to the floor and a sheen of perspiration on my face. As my body adjusts to the time change, the morning light that awoke me just a few days ago is still an hour away when the alarm jars me from my seasonal dreams.

At least in Second Life I can recreate the season, falling back on my midwestern memories of oranges, golds and red. Of the walks through a meadow, glorying in the magical glow that only comes from an autumnal sunset.
