Taking A (Virtual) Mental Health Break

1 Fear_054

I took a little break from blogging. It wasn’t so much that I was burnt out from my 30-day challenge, but more that I was burnt out from SL in general. I have never made it a secret that I am fully immersed in our little world and the people I am closest to have links to Second Life. I am very much a “Virtual Girl”.

I think one of the best parts (or maybe the worst) is that when the drama or circumstances get to be too much, you can just check out. I guess not logging in to SL is the real world equivalent of taking a “Mental Health Day” from work. You know the one…when you aren’t really ill but you just need a day or two to recover your mojo. It works in SL, too. I had tried taking photos, but I just wasn’t “seeing” them. The angle, the lighting, the location just weren’t right, no matter how many different versions I tried. So, I did the only thing I could think to do; I took a Virtual Mental Health Break.

I’ve spent my time away working on other things – skills that I can use in either world, although it remains to be seen just how successful I will be. But I’ll keep learning, trying, reflecting on what I need to do. And hopefully, sharing what I have discovered.

Bravo Peep, I admire you for it and am glad you’re keeping it real. Someone told me once, when I lost balance of RL/SL, that at the end of the day, I just click on that red X at the top right of the corner, and just like that, no more virtual world.. Nowadays I go extreme and physically put away my laptop telling my brain, its off time lol. *hugs and thank you for being an inspiration*

Hugs, Wendz ❤ Yeah, it's not as easy to hit that X sometimes as most people think it is. But it's nice the option is always there 🙂

I’m glad that you’re taking good care of yourself.

I’ve found that I have to step away from SL, from blogging and from communication technology in general more frequently than I plan on. It’s a healthy thing and I’ve never regretted it. Thank you for posting this.

Thanks, Pearl 🙂 I don’t step away that often, but I’ve discovered it’s fairly easy to just not log in. Sometimes I wish we could do the same thing with real life!

Sometimes we forget that we must take care of ourselves first and foremost. Glad to see you taking care of you.

It’s easy to forget. I only took a couple of days, but I’m rested, refreshed and ready to be back!

Sometimes it’s important to retreat to our “real” lives every once in awhile to be reminded that the virtual dramas are just not that huge after all. We come back refreshed from the break an able to once more put up with the whirlwind.

I’m with Bumblebee, Riverpearl, Cougarsangria & PurpleButterfly – all great responses! We see so many peeps who love the world so much suddenly implode and leave forever. Those are complicated events, maybe they’re sad, maybe they’re appropriate, but either way I like the idea of “letting a little pressure off” instead of waiting for something to burst.

It’s been so great meeting you and so nice to have you in both the virtual world and the blogosphere!

    xoxo

I can’t see me being one of those people who departs with a dramatic flounce. I love the world – and the people in it – too much, despite all of the flaws in both. So I’ll take a mini-break every once in a while so I can keep my perspective. Boring, yes. But oh, so necessary!

Hugs, Vaneeesa (with the eee’s) ❤

I can totally relate to this. Once in a while I will wake up in the morning and decide, nope, not gonna happen today and I just stay off all sl-related stuff and any social media sites. That’s hard for me as you know how much of an addict I am when it comes to social media but I think sometimes we really do need that mental break and get back to reality. I hope your break was good for you, I’m glad to see you back. ❤

Thanks, Berry 🙂 Yes, it felt a bit like I had lost a limb for a very short time. But that soon passed and I was happy to take my little vacation. I promise I won’t bore everyone with the pictures 😉

Very good-well said. Sorry I sent the cops to the front door to check on you while you were soaking in the tub. >.< But I am glad you are back ❤
