Every fashion blogger in Second Life has one thing they use in every post – a pose. But rarely are the poses the centerpiece of the photo. In fact, a lot of bloggers don’t even credit the pose or posemaker. I have never understood that – they are willing to credit every other thing in their photographs, but not the pose that shows it off.

Since I began doing credits for my blog I have always included the pose, whether it is still available or not. I have a huge respect for pose makers and I believe they should get the same attention as the dressmakers, hair stylists and jewelers. So, today, E is for Eternal Dream Poses, one of my favourite pose stores in Second Life.

Eternal Dream Poses may not be as well known as some of the others, but Fata Boa makes very natural poses – something that I value. Yes, some pictures scream for more drama, but for the most part, if the outfit is the hero of the photo, a natural pose is my choice. She also creates fun pose props, such as the little birdie shown here. He can change his plumage to compliment your composition – even he is a fashion maven! Or is that raven? 😉

I have been lucky enough to have been chosen for early entry (more E’s!) to this year’s Pose Fair, largely because I am a blogger who does always credit poses. I am hoping to have a few more to feature during the alphabet challenge. If they don’t fit the day’s letter, I will still be showing them off. Just keep an eye on my credits 🙂

D is for Demo. Or Disaster

1 D is for Demo

D is for oh, dear! I had an attempted shopping day a couple of days ago. I say attempted, because I tried my luck at The Home Show. I got in, but it was full and after standing in one store for about 30 minutes, less than half of the items had rezzed. I tried cam shopping, but more or less ran into the same problem. Repeatedly. All in all, I spent a little over an hour there and finally gave up with plans to go back another day.

So since I had Lindens burning a hole in my pocket, I hopped over to FaMESHed. I knew I was in for the same problem there when I saw nothing but floating heads, missing vendors and orange puffs. Fortunately, things started to rez after several minutes but I knew better than to try on demos there.

So, off I flew home. Now, I didn’t originally plan to try on four different demos at the same time, but I was still suffering lag and although I thought I had removed each one when they didn’t show up initially, they obviously had a different idea. Suddenly they all appeared. Well, about half way. And there they stayed. They wouldn’t fully settle onto my body and they would NOT come off! I was giggling as I took this quick snapshot before logging off to try later.

I went back the next day and bought all four items I tried on, after logging back in to a completely normal avatar, albeit dressed in nothing but demos. I even changed before I headed back to do my shopping.

Disaster averted. And my “D” entry was completed.

I did a quick inventory search on “chairs” yesterday. I was shocked at how many returns I had! From comfy, deep armchairs to straight-backed wooden chairs to cushy and not-so-cushy stools, I’ve got more than I could ever use and many I forgot I had. Some are gacha prizes, others from furniture sets, several are pose props but most are just single chairs that I saw and had to have. I rezzed out a few for this photograph – I could have included a lot more, but hey, I’ve got to do the credits 😉

Oddly enough, while I love home furnishings in Second Life, my avatar rarely sits, unless I’m posing for a picture. I find it strange that even when having friends over for a visit, we usually end up standing around, rather than sitting down for a chat. It’s not like there isn’t at least 100 places to sit on the island. And it’s also not like I couldn’t rez at least a few dozen different chairs or sofas or cushions or benches if what I have displayed wasn’t to my guest’s liking. I have noticed this when I visit other people’s homes, as well.

Is it a common SL phenomenon? Or am I just lacking in social graces? Do you sit when hanging around at home or going to see other people? Do you think people might be more likely to sit if I didn’t have my chairs in a pile?
