I think that’s what Piwnica pod Aniolami means – anyway, it is the best translation from Polish to English I could find for it. All I know is it is a lovely little place in Second Life with a quaint courtyard, a playground and yes, there is an angel hovering. It made a nice backdrop for the new things I found at Collabor88.

The jacket and top, skirt, hair and necklace all came from this event. I picked up a few more things but for me, it was a restrained shopping trip. There are lots of well-made items, but this month’s theme of Supernova just didn’t speak to me. At least not as loudly as this event normally does. Which is probably a good thing, at least for my wallet. I did like that some of the regulars teamed up with another designer to create complimentary items. The bomber jacket and skirt match perfectly and are from a collaboration between House of Fox and Emery. The jacket has the bonus of an optional top you can wear (as I did) with separate alphas to accommodate either look. And although they didn’t make it into the photo, I found a pair of cute shoes from tulip. that are a great match, even though they teamed with ISON.

I’ll close with a photo of the courtyard, without me in it. It is worth a visit, whether you speak Polish or not. Rather like traveling in real life – you don’t have to speak the language to appreciate the beauty of a place.

Lesson Learned From Surrealism

I consider myself to be a rather grounded, down-to-earth kind of person. So I almost didn’t click into the gallery for The Surreal Complex over on Seraphim to see what was on offer. Ah, in case you didn’t know about Seraphim, that is my shopping secret weapon. It is how I find out about the majority of sales events going on and gives me a sneak-preview so I can decide whether or not to fight the crowds.

But, being the dedicated shopper that I am, I took a peek. I was expecting something along the lines of nightmare-inspired items; instead, I found more quirky, clever and cute items mixed in with the more avant-garde. The event is divided into three categories: art, dreams and fairy tales. It is a fun shopping venue (although I did have trouble finding the teleporter back to the main level from the dreams gallery) and while it was busy, it wasn’t overly crowded, making it a very pleasant shopping experience.

My favourite items were the poses. I had to have the Butterflies set from UNCERTAIN SMILE, and immediately headed over to Two Moon Gardens to play with it. It was the perfect distraction while I waited the required ten minutes for entry into the Two Moon Gardens Booty Board competition (group membership required).

I guess this just shows that one should never judge a book by its cover or a sales event by its name. I have always believed the first; I am learning the wisdom of the second.

I Went Shopping For Shorts

My favourite shorts ever are the Paneled Shorts by Tres Blah. I even blogged about them. I bought a couple of colours when they were out at Collabor88 a few months ago. I had no idea when I went back to purchase another colour (or five) that I would find myself in such a surrealistic wonderland.

The shorts can be found at the Tres Blah store at Tableau. I can only describe this sim as Area 51 meets Haunted Carnival meets Jurassic Park in Tijuana. It is surreal and colourful and you have to see it to believe it. Yes, there are quite a few stores there, but they are all huddled together in a little town, surrounded by a riot of surprises. Tumble weeds roll lazily past only to come to a rest against the leg of a dinosaur. A Fun House clown’s smile is the frame for what appears to be a retirement corral for merry-go-round horses. Unexploded atomic bombs are nestled amid the broken down buildings. The music is a strange combination of elevator music/big band/carnival sounds. You must see it to understand just how eerily beautiful it is.

I’m not going to act as your tour guide, but click past the cut to see a few of the sights.

And to think, all I wanted was to buy a pair of shorts.
