Waiting For The Post

It’s rare to actually wait for the postman anymore. FedEX or StarTrack, maybe, but most days I check my mailbox and, despite the “No junk mail” placard, I find my box stuffed with realtor and pizza delivery ads. With texting and instant messaging it is also rare to even receive a “real” email.

I do remember the times, though, when the stop at the postbox would bring a smile to my face with a card, a letter or even a postcard (do they still make those?). Even the inconvenience of having to make a trip to the post office was overshadowed by the knowledge that a parcel too large for the box awaited me.

My postman, by the way, never rings twice; I’m lucky if he makes the 20-step trek to my front door, and I went into a panic before Christmas when he haphazardly stuffed a delivery into my box, only to have my neighbour rescue it…then forget to tell me she had picked it up for a week. Trust me; you do NOT want to have to deal with AusPost customer service in the lead up to the holiday!

Occasionally, though, there is still something other than a bill or junk, a treasure trove to be savoured and remembered, as a nostalgic remembrance of simpler times.

The postbox in my photo that brought on those memories is located at Rwah’s newest photography sim, Purple Crayons. It will be open soon; I’ll give details when it goes public. It is truly a destination not to be missed! Edit: Purple Crayons is now open! Also open now is Sneak Peek, so plan on doing some shopping!

Leather & Tweed In The Lost Town

I hung out at Rwah’s place(s) this weekend. You remember Square Pegs in Round Holes, right? She and Jordy Zipdash have transformed it into The Lost Town, and there is still time to enter the photo competition. All you need to do is create a postcard, shot at The Lost Town and upload it to the Square Pegs the Pictures Flickr group by January 31. It is a juried contest, with the winner receiving 1000L, 2nd place winning 750L and third place gets 500L. So there’s no reason not to head over, snap some shots and enter!

When I got dressed, I realised The Lost Town would be a great place to shoot one of the latest releases from JfL Hats. I love the tweed, it fits snugly and fashionably and works wonderfully with leather and denim. I can’t quite decide if I seem more like a gunslinger in a ghost town (sans guns) or a wayward B actress lost on the back lot of a movie studio. Luckily, I only had to derender a few people who wandered into my shots; I guess I turned them into ghosts!

You might have noticed at the beginning I mentioned Rwah’s places…plural. She is working on another sim, which will be opening (hopefully) soon. It is an amazing build, very unique in character, and has that special touch that only Rwah can bring. Stay tuned for more info; I can’t say anything more right now or Rwah will beat me with her wet sock!

Tiny Dancers

One of the things on my SL Bucket List is to see a live performance at the Basilique Playhouse. I first became aware of this virtual theatre group when they staged Romeo and Juliet in 2013 and last year, Paradise Lost. Unfortunately, the showtimes didn’t mesh well with living in Australia, so I didn’t have the opportunity to experience the immersive performances. I have read about the shows, watched clips on Youtube and seen the Drax Files episode. Artistic Director Canary Beck and Technical Director Harvey Crabsticks have brought live theatre to a new level in Second Life.
