While I wear a lot of black in real life, I rarely wear it in Second Life. Oh, maybe a pair of black pants or leggings, but I usually add a colourful top or dress of some sort. I just really love being able to show my plumage in SL!

But there is just something so very sophisticated and classy about teaming black and red. It’s daring and sexy. And it can be worn in every season.

1 Feeling Fallish

I have to admit that when I went to Collabor88 this month, I really wasn’t feeling the fall mood. Here in Australia we have just headed into spring and it’s been an unseasonably warm one. In fact, the day I hit Collab, it was 32 degrees Celsius (that’s almost 90F). I still managed to find a few items I liked enough to add to my wardrobe.

Then, today, the temperature dropped by 10 degrees Celsius and with a rather strong breeze blowing, it felt more like autumn. And I began to feel a bit fall-ish. So I set up the Trompe Loeil Fireplace Patio kit and slipped into some autumn duds.

I will mention, in all fairness, that this jacket doesn’t really work with these pants, except in certain poses. I certainly wouldn’t wear it out, but I really did love this look. And since I have this blazing fire beside me, although it is outdoors, I don’t mind baring a little calf and cleavage.

Just because there is a nip in the air doesn’t mean I can’t show a bit of skin 😉

I imagine when most people hear the phrase, “I know why the caged bird sings,” they think of the iconic work by Maya Angelou. But the inspiration for the title of her book came from the quoted stanza of poetry above. What we often perceive as happiness and joy is just a mask for something deeper and darker. For unmet expectations and fears of who we are and the life we lead. The apparent good humour we display is a way of hiding the doubt and disappointment; it is the plea and prayer that we may someday be set free.

But for each of us, there is that open window that is our motivation to keep on laughing, singing, pleading and praying. And just when the shadows are deepest, when we are laid bare, that is when a hand reaches out, unlocks the door and gives us our wings.

To be caged no more and sing the sweetest.

**Just an update on the Bali house I reviewed a few weeks ago. I received this house as a thank you for blogging the launch. I only saw the demo version and based my review only upon the finished build. Unfortunately, there were several problems with the rezzer after it was released and a lot of people were disappointed with their purchase. Danny has sent out at least three updates to rectify the problems. If you bought the house and are still experiencing issues with rezzing, the build or any missing items, please message Suite Sella in world. Despite the issues with getting it set up, I stand by my review of the house itself. It truly is stunning.
