Just my luck – it’s the season finale of my favourite television program and my rabbit ears aren’t even twitching! *insert unladylike swear words*

Actually, my television in real life isn’t even plugged and hasn’t been for years, but hey, it works with the props 😉

The lovely baskets tucked into the corner are available for a special price for Lazy Sunday at Kuro on May 3. They are full of colourful cushions – great for throwing at the TV without causing any damage 😉

1 Conducting The Fireflies

When I was a child, I spent countless summer evenings conducting fireflies. No, they aren’t actually musical, but if you watch them long enough you will begin to notice a rhythm to their movements: slow and intermittent at twilight, building to a crescendo as twilight deepens. As darkness descends, it is nearly impossible not to join them in their dance of mystical, musical whimsy.

I remember once catching them and putting them in a jar with holes punched in the top, hoping to experience their magic at any time of day. But in the morning, they were dim, sluggish and dark. Running outside, I opened the lid and released them, watching them slowly wander around the ground momentarily before taking flight – little jewels of black and red against the sunny sky.

I never captured fireflies again. Their beauty and majesty can only be appreciated when they flicker among the stars, creating a masterpiece that diminishes in captivity.

When thinking of a desert, usually I imagine a desolate, lonely place, devoid of life and colour. But that is far from the truth. The shadows and occasional hummock of grass give it a palette that is stark, but beautiful. The sky, redolent of reds and yellows are the backdrop to the austere artwork.

It is a blank canvas, just waiting for the artist’s inspiration.
