If Wishes Were Horses – My Three SL Wishes Meme

1 Wishing

If wishes were fishes we’d all be throwing nets. If wishes were horses we’d all ride.

Douglas Horton

That is a quote my Mom used quite frequently (although she usually shortened it to just include the horse part. She never liked to fish 😉 ). So I grew up understanding that wishing something wouldn’t make it happen. But that didn’t stop me from dreaming…

This week’s meme from Strawberry Singh is to blog our three Second Life wishes. You can click the link to see Berry’s and be sure to check out the others that are listed in the comments. I’ve had a ball every week reading the other memes!

Here are the instructions:
Share three things you wish for or about your Second Life. They could be things you wish from Linden Lab, things you would like to have inworld, things you would like to do, or any kind of wishes you may have. Remember to leave your link in this meme’s post so others can come by and read your answers as well!

Now, for MY three wishes!

I wish everyone would use a mesh-enabled viewer. For almost a year after mesh hit the grid, I refused to wear it when I was hosting so that people didn’t see me either as a blob or missing large parts of my anatomy. But come on, people! It’s been around for over a year now. I always wear undies under my mesh, but it annoys me when people ask me to change to system clothes when I’m working, just because they refuse to update their viewers! I had someone ask me to change a couple of weeks ago, and for the first time, I refused. You can stare at my bald head, missing legs and pastie-clad bewbies and enjoy the show, or get with the times and see me in my meshy glory!

I wish I could keep my clothes on. No, it’s not what you think!! Sheesh, get your minds out of the gutter :p Recently, I’ve been having a lot of trouble changing clothes. I can add attachments, but clothing layers just don’t seem to “stick”. This includes alpha layers, so I can’t even switch to mesh to be decent enough to leave home. While I’m grateful to no longer be wearing my hair and shoes up my bum, could I at least be able to wear a pair of panties and a bra??? This is just one of several recent glitches that have cropped up. The rest are slightly annoying, but this one is a major grrrr!

I wish people didn’t rush into relationships so quickly. I’m a romantic. I freely admit it. But I’m also a cynic. I see so many people partner – and even marry – in Second Life within a week or two of meeting. They meet, connect, feel that rush of infatuation and immediately join themselves “forever and ever, baby! You’re the only one for me! I’ll never love another!” Then the next time I see them, they’ve split up (often acrimoniously) and have a new partner. No, not just a new boyfriend or girlfriend, but a partner, with the name officially emblazoned in each other’s profiles. I have no problem with people meeting and finding love in Second Life, or any other virtual manner. I also know time seems to be condensed in SL. But please, get to know one another before you make it official. If you’ve managed to stay together for several months (real life months, that is), then consider it. Hell, go for it! I don’t expect permanence in SL any more than I do in reality, but I wish at least that people gave relationships half of the respect they have to in real life in order to make it work – not just give up so easily and move on. You have to nourish a relationship keep it going, so give it some time and make sure it’s what is right for you. Then, I’ll happily embrace your partnership and celebrate your joy 🙂

I’m actually suprised how difficult this meme was to complete. I know there are annoyances that we all suffer, but overall, I’m pretty happy with Second Life.

Now, please excuse me…I’ve grabbed my fishing net and my steed awaits!

I know they say that a day in SL = a week in RL .. but still, mercy, people jump into relationships faster than I change boxers! Nice post 🙂

OMG yes to #1! I don’t understand how it’s been almost two years now since mesh has hit the grid and there are people still not using mesh viewers. It’s unbelievable! They are missing such an important part of the SL experience and they don’t even know it!

It’s not just the clothes. I hate when people complain that their house, accessories, etc are too primmy. I love the lower land impact that so many creators are now offering.

Yes to all! Yes, yes and yes. 🙂

yep, I used to host as well and when I quit finally jumped at my chance to wear mesh without guests asking where was my body..

I sooooo remember the Hair on the arse days of TPing. As for the clothes, I wonder what makes it do that. Once when I was a noob that happened to me, I went to Bogarts to dance and the hostess said I had to leave because I was naked. I argued with her, looked down and sure enough *cough* I hit the crosshairs and didn’t go back to SL for a week I was so embarrassed. Great works Peep! ❤

lol yes, I think we’ve all shown up inappropriately naked at times. It’s part of the SL experience. But this has gone beyond ridiculous – and it’s so very annoying! Hugs Cao ♥

OMG number 1 & 3….I have to wear pasties just so that some freak wont have a free show as well as panties! You shouldn’t need to change and I wish more people would wear mesh all the flexi stuff and stuff going through the person’s body ugh! The relationship thing you have no idea(ok maybe you do :D) how it messed with me so much while I was still hanging out with my ex friend, she would have a new person or partner every week or so and she “loved” that person and wanted to move in and all sorts of sickening crap. You hit the nail on this one, loved it!

Thank you! I gave up on keeping a score card with some of the people I know. Just too hard to keep up!

i’m so with you on #1. i used to care if others could see my fabulous self properly or not, but now…. i really don’t. it’s their loss, not mine! but it’s definitely annoying to hear “why are you wearing a box of hair on your head?”..

    • peepsideshow May 2, 2013 / 9:15 pm

lol I really guess I should be nicer to our guests, but I have to draw the line somewhere. And I figure I’m one cute box anyway 😀

Talk to me! (please? )
