Fighting The Winter Blues

1 Wide Brim_029

Don’t get me wrong – I like winter. I like it better than summer, especially now that I live in Australia. But when you live on the opposite side of the world from the majority of SL content creators, it can cause a bit of a seasonal confusion.

As we are well into spring and heading into summer here in the Antipodes, I find myself suffering the same problem I have every year I have resided in SL. As I am in the mood for springy colours and summery sundresses and shorts, SL is either adorned in autumn hues or wintery sweaters and mittens. It does cause me a bit of consternation. It is probably silly, but I get overheated looking at my avatar dressed in woolens when it is a sweltering 35 degrees C (95 degrees F) outside!

I finally made it in to Collabor88 yesterday, and while I admit to stocking up on my fair share of boots, it was this sweet little pair of shorts and top that were my prized finds. And what better way to show them off than on a glorious yacht? Of course, when one goes out sailing, one must wear a chapeau to protect one’s fair skin and this wide-brimmed hat from JfL was just the ticket! With sunscreen, iPod, lip balm and a set of warmer clothes packed away in my bag, I ventured aboard for a day of sailing (you know it gets cooler on the water at sunset, right?)

I love sailing. I’m not a sailor myself, but I do love being out on the water. I remember fabulous days reclining on the deck of a friend’s 40 foot sailboat as we skimmed the waves of Lake Huron when I lived in Michigan. There is something so serene about the breeze on your face as the sun shimmers on the lake, the soft whooshing of the boat cutting through the water, the sounds of the occasional seagull wishing you a good day, dozing a bit then waking to stretch cat-like before offering to help with the sails, only to be told just to relax and enjoy the experience.

Although, truth be told, I often thought the kind refusal of help was more because my host was afraid I would snarl the halyard rather than just an invitation to let her and her partner do all the work 😉

Love love LOVE LOVE LOVVEEE! This is one of the best pictures you’ve ever done, IMHO! LOVE the look, and you’ve captured the shadow so beautifully! Well done you clever lass! xxxx

(Oh, and I have to dress Kitty according to RL season as well…can’t help it!)

Oh wow, thank you, Kitty! That really made me smile 🙂

I’m going to have to force myself to blog winter stuff soon enough…I’ll hang onto spring as long as I can!

Thar she blows! Thar be a peepshow skimming briskly atop the water, must be a nor’easter down thar! ♥♥

lol actually, down here it’s a southerly, not a nor’easter. We get our cold weather from Antarctica. And it really screws me up – not that I have any sense of direction, but I still expect my weather to come from the west or the north!

I’m feeling the blues just from this time change… its completely dark by 6 pm and I’m feeling like it’s time to get to bed. I love being able to enjoy the seasons that I don’t get living in Florida in my virtual world.

I should probably look at it that way instead…so much more positive! 🙂

I love sailing when there’s little wind, the boat is upright and one does not need harnesses (hometown Wellington!). I have never rocked a sailing ensemble as divine as yours.

lol I forgot to mention those provisos, but I have to agree completely! I’m not prone to sea sickness, but then I’ve never been sailing during The Perfect Storm 😉

I love this picture and the outfit and the text. more more more more please? I do love sailing ( I can’t even get a toy sailboat to float safely in a tub of water in my backyard but who cares) I love the ocean and sea and ooh I feel a song coming on. Not sure if its going to be Molly Malone or Beyond the sea :P. ❤
