Today I took a break from shopping. Well, unless you don’t count the Marketplace purchase I made of the Erratic Mindy shirt I’d been meaning to buy 😉 Instead, I decided to pick a new location from the Second Life Destination Guide. I saw several places that looked interesting, but I decided to pay Alirium a visit. The description caught my attention right away:

Begin in a wintery shack, then warm up as you explore all four seasons spread across a radiant spectrum of gorgeous colors.

I didn’t actually begin in the shack, but rather a black space with butterflies floating around me and a large white hole. Holding my breath, I plunged in and landed in a small shop for the landscaping you can find on the sim. Then, out a doorway, through a tunnel and I found myself in a meadow bursting with colour. I wandered around a bit until I found a kaleidoscope of butterflies above a field of stunning yellow grass with beautiful pink trees in the distance. And there I stayed.

I am in awe as I wander the myriad sims in Second Life, amazed at the beauty and creativity the residents produce. Although I can’t do them justice, I am happy to just take my photographs and share my wonder with you.

SL10B Snapshot

Second Life is preparing to celebrate its tenth birthday this month with an event called SL10B. To be honest, I didn’t realise it had been running that long. I think the oldest person I know was rezzed in 2005. I have been around for almost half that time, and I feel like I’m ancient! I can only imagine what those who have been in SL since the beginning think of all of the changes There are a lot of festivities planned, including hundreds of events, displays, activities and even free commemorative gifts! The SL10B Bear has been cropping up in blogs and on Flickr for the past few days, so he’s already a hit before the party officially begins on June 16. To keep up with what’s going on, make sure to check the official SL10B blog.

For the first time, I am participating in the festivities. I will have at least one Single Frame Story entry on display, the Avatar Blogger Month is part of the celebration, and today, I received my Press Pass for early entry to SL10B, where they are encouraging all residents – whether as a blogger or a reveler – to take photos and share their experience. Additionally, the photo in this post is my entry in the Snapshot contest for SL10B. Entries close on June 6, so if you want to enter, you’d better hurry! There will be another contest during the celebration, with the prize being four months tier paid on a homestead sim! I certainly plan to enter that one!

For this contest, you have a choice between an unedited photo and a post-processed photo. For a change, I chose to go the unedited route. I’m sure most residents will recognise “The Girl Next Door” in my photograph. It’s true…we’ve come a long way, baby!

1 Arcade June_Uncommonly Rare

Sighs. I’m glad The Arcade only comes around once every three months, or I would be perpetually broke! I blogged about my beloved Happy Poo Skirt back in March at the last Arcade. This time, there was once again an item that I dearly wanted. Strangely enough, it was also a Common item – not a rare. And it cost me dearly!

You see, Strawberry Singh blogged the [Ladies Who Lunch] Grey Throne collar and cuff set as a sneak preview a week or so ago, and I instantly fell in love. After multiple attempts, I finally made it into The Arcade today, and after crashing four times, I finally was able to find the LWL gacha machine. Wouldn’t you know it, after my first six attempts, I have five of the six Rares, but not the Grey Throne I craved! I’m not a trader, and I was fearful of crashing again and not being able to get back, so I started hitting a few more gachas. And I got lucky with a LOT of Rares! I still haven’t finished sorting through all of my goodies, but I have been so pleased with my winnings that I will attempt to put together a few more posts to show them off!

Just before I left, I decided to give the LWL gacha L$75 one…more…time. Eureka! There was my Grey Throne!

Hurrying home, I quickly unpacked my collar and cuffs, tossed on my Rare skirt from tulip., my Cafe pumps from Ingenue, my Red Eye Flight hair from Clawtooth, and my very first Glam Affair skin, Lulu 4. I know the flowers don’t really match my outfit, but I wanted to use this Rare pose from Adorkable – my absolute favourite pose maker, who is, sadly, going out of business 😦 So you can be sure I took more than one spin at that machine! In fact, everything I’m wearing in this photo, except my top and eyes, came from this round of The Arcade.
