Hooooo’s Ready For The Collage?

1 Collage Feb_016 TD

It’s the 23rd and that means that The Collage is open again for the next two weeks! You may recall that I went a little crazy over this event and especially my new favourite shabby chic store, Thaino Designs at the last round. This month, Thaihiti Baroque, the designer of Thaino Designs so very kindly offered me her items to blog. I admit I SQUEEEEEEEE’d! a bit. (OK, a LOT!)

Everything available is in the photo above. The main theme is owls and of course, shabby chic florals and colours. I really can’t decide which is my favourite item. Thankfully, I don’t have to 😉

I actually left a lot of these items set up in the back garden at my show room. It makes it a very inviting spot to just sit back and relax, or even take some pictures. Anyone is welcome to do so – I’ll even give you VIP ride there!

I’m going to do a little slide show with some closer views of many of the items. But please, don’t let that stop you from heading over to The Collage to see them in person.

Hoooo’s gonna tell me which is their favourite?

Going To School At Tableau

1 Tableau 2

I really need to just plan a visit to Tableau to shoot photographs. It is one of the few places where the shiny of the setting can distract me from the shiny of the shopping.

On my last excursion to Tableau, as you may recall, I went shopping for shorts at Tres Blah. I honestly thought I bought the black ones, but apparently I didn’t. So back I went to get them. Since I was so smitten by the landscape the last time I thought I would check out the other stores on this trip. I actually went into a few shops but then I walked around a corner and saw the scene in the photo above.

That was it. I was done shopping.

I have been playing around with clouds brushes in Photoshop lately. The clouds in the photos for my blog in my last three posts (where clouds are present) have either been enhanced or created completely using this process. The Windlight setting I chose for this shot actually had a cloudless sky. So these are a new meteorological phenomenon: Peepulus clouds. It has been fun learning this, although it has been entirely trial and error (emphasis on the error!).

Then, because I liked the contrast in the photo, I decided to make a black & white version.

I am also still learning to get the contrast right with black & white photographs to show them off in the best light (pun intended). But what I love most is just the process of learning, and Tableau is a fabulous place to go to school.

M Is For “Memories”; M Is For “Music”

1 M is for Memories

I was standing at the counter
I was waiting for the change
When I heard that old familiar music start
It was like a lighted match
Had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart

After taking every detour
Getting lost and losing track
So that even if I wanted
I could not find my way back
After driving out the memory
Of the way things might have been
After I’d forgotten all about us
The song remembers when

~ from “The Song Remembers When” by Trisha Yearwood

I often say that I have no business being a DJ because I am terrible at remembering song titles and artists. More than one of my friends will attest to this because I have been known to ask them, “What is that song that I love?” and they invariably can tell me. When I put a two-hour set together, it often takes me longer than that to queue the music because I have to listen to parts of each tune to make sure it flows with the previous ones. To build a set consisting of 25-30 songs, I may listen to snippets of twice that many.

But occasionally, a song that I haven’t heard in years will trigger a deep response that can’t be forgotten. A song that I associate with a particular time in my life, a special person, a moment that is burned into my memory.

This is why I love music. Not for the catchy beat or the clever lyric, but for the strong reaction it creates. Sometimes a song comes on the air and it elicits a small smile; other times, it is a visceral response, as if my heart has been gripped with an iron glove. So many people feel the same way. Very often when I get a request for a song when I DJ it is preceded or followed by, “That’s my (our) song.”

So whether it is a song I personally like or not, I play it…with a nod of understanding.

Well, for all the miles between us
And for all the time that’s passed
You would think I haven’t gotten very far
And I hope my hasty heart
Will forgive me just this once
If I stop to wonder how on Earth you are

But that’s just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there’s no use in backtracking
Around corners I have turned
Still I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again
And even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when
