Weekly Photo Challenge: Future Tense – A Distant Horizon

The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is once again a phoneography challenge. While I do enjoy taking photos with my phone, I can’t say I’ll be unhappy when “Phoneography Month” is over. It’s not my focus for this blog and I don’t feel as comfortable with my photos taken with my Galaxy SIII as I do with shooting pictures in Second Life.

Still, I did say I would attempt to take the challenge each week. The prompt for A Distant Horizon is:

It’s still phoneography month, and in today’s challenge I’m hoping you’ll put all of that futuristic camera tech to good use, by thinking about the shape of things to come.

…In today’s challenge we want you to grab an image from your world that holds the promise or portent of the future.

This challenge is still a good one for me. I decided this week to accept redundancy from my place of work of over 12 years. I’ll be taking a short break before chasing that distant horizon. Somewhere, out there, beyond the Coat Hanger and Opera House, is my future place of employment. My wish is that it is fulfilling and gives me satisfaction.

That I took this photo from my current place of work makes it even more fitting.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lunchtime – You Had Me At Cupcake

I laughed when I saw the subject of this week’s photo challenge. I regularly snap photos of my lunch with the camera on my phone to send to my sweetheart, so since it’s breakfast time for me in Australia, I’m pulling some snaps from my archives. These are totally raw shots, other than a bit of cropping – a big departure from my Second Life photos!

It actually started with me sending him pictures of cupcakes in the display cabinet of the cafe at work, so I’m tossing in a shot of those (hey, you can have cupcakes for lunch…right?)

And now, on to some of the lunch shots from the same cafe.

Chicken ceasar salad with mushrooms and boiled egg. Healthy and light!

Chicken, black bean and avocado tacos with a corn salsa in a soft tortilla. Absolutely delicious!

I could post more, but I’m afraid I would run the battery down on my phone just uploading them 😉

You can see more entries for the Weekly Photo Challenge here. And drool over their offerings like I did 🙂

Phoneography Challenge: My Neighborhood

This post is a departure for me in many ways! First, it’s not a Second Life photo blog. Second, it’s being posted from my phone! And finally, there won’t be a single photo of a person in these shots. It’s all about the things I see on my walks to and from the train each day. All of these photos were taken with my Samsung Galaxy S III.

This post does relate to Second Life in a way. A friend I met there asked for “a pic a day” from my life to be posted on Facebook. While some days I’m racing to get to the station on time and don’t have time to snap a quick pic, I do my best to honour her request 🙂

I may be cheating a bit for the challenge since I didn’t take these today, but these were all taken from my phone in my neighborhood.

This photo of an interesting root garnered much laughter when I first posted it. It’s right outside my front door.

This little fella hopped along the verge beside me for almost a full block before posing for me, then flying away.

And the final photos are my first attempt at playing with the photo editor on my phone. The original shot seemed rather uninspiring, but became dramatic when I turned it into a sketch.

I’m not sure about blogging from my phone on a regular basis, but I’ll certainly keep using it to capture my neighborhood and beyond.
