Peep Goes Live With PicMonkey!

As you are probably aware, I am a big fan of PicMonkey.com for photo editing. I have done three previous tutorials on PicMonkey, but this time I’m actually doing a video tutorial. Please forgive my clumsiness using the video capture software; I am a complete novice and it shows! I used CamStudio.org to record my video. This is a free application and it’s relatively simple to use, if you watch the set up video. If you choose to install it, please pay close attention during the installation – they have several add ons included so make sure you opt in or out of each one.

The reason I am doing another tutorial now is two-fold. First, PicMonkey.com is offering a one-week free trial of their Royale effects. This is a limited-time offer and I have no idea how long it will be available, so if you’re interested in checking out the additional features you can usually only access by paying for the service, act quickly! You can always opt out if you decide it’s not for you. But hey…who can turn down free?

The photo above is the completed photo from my tutorial. This tutorial focuses on a new feature, Design – the second reason I chose to do this now. It allows you to create your own graphics, which I have used to make a simple calendar. I also show you how to create and apply your own watermark.

I have had such marvelous response to my previous tutorials (Teach Me Something Meme, More (Pic)Monkeying Around – Part 1 and Part 2) that I hope this one is as helpful. Feel free to leave a comment on whether you like it or not and what I can do to improve…other than changing my voice and learning how to use the software better. I know those two already 😉

I used a calendar image downloaded from PublicDomainPictures.net. This photo has a Public Domain license, so the only stipulation on use is to link back to the image in any publication. You can click on the previous link to access that picture.

I had a lot of fun putting this tutorial together. Once I get used to using the video capture software AND I have something worth showing you again, I’ll be sure to do another one. It really is a lot easier than taking screen shots and typing everything out 😉

I actually won’t get much time to kick back this week in SL. With four photo shoots and two sets to DJ, plus doing some pretty serious power shopping, I thought it was wise to grab a quick shot of me relaxing. I can’t imagine sitting down for long the rest of the week!

Isn’t It *ionic*?

The Chapter Four has become one of the events that I anticipate like a child anticipates Christmas. It ranks right up there with Collabor88 and The Arcade for me, not just in terms of the high-quality goodies, but because it combines gacha, half price, two-for-one and under 100L sales all in one handy location. While the gacha room is always the most crowded, I am happy to wander through the other rooms without fear of having someone land on my head or run me over. Don’t let that fool you, though; I simply move into a different section, peruse and buy, then cam my way back to the gacha event to take my chances on the machines 😉

I had a little difficulty the first time I went to this round. First, I was early and landed in the water and I wasn’t alone! There was a small convention of Chapter Four would-be shoppers dog paddling beneath the ocean. When I finally made it in, it was packed and moving was nearly impossible to the point that there were four of us stacked up on top of each other at the landing point. Fortunately, I wasn’t on the bottom; I wasn’t wearing the proper attire for being the base of the pyramid! After managing to extract myself, I tried my hand at the gacha machines. On my first try, I hit a Rare, followed immediately by the dreaded message, “Unable to create object in inventory.” Ah, but it was able to take my Lindens, wasn’t it? On my second try my balance was reduced to -1L and even after buying a 0L demo (my usual method for restoring my balance), the machines weren’t giving up their wares. Dejected, I tried to TP home, only to be told that the landmark didn’t exist. Nor did my studio, the club where I work, and every location I had visited in the past two days. Clearly, someone at Linden Labs was doing their part to protect my remaining bank account!

I waited a day to return and while it was still busy, I was able to shop unscathed. I landed the Rare I was cheated out of the first time and there was no lack of spending on my part. In addition to the lovely gacha items I won from the *ionic* machine, I also scored an awesome pair of boots in another section.

I have learned a new respect for patience and persistence. Eventually they pay off…ironically, for the designers 😉
