The Flat Rodvik Linden Meme – He Ain’t Heavy

Rod and Peep go to Love Donna Flora
Rod and Peep go to Love Donna Flora

What an honour! This week Berry has made it possible for us to travel the grid with CEO of Linden Labs, Rodvik Linden (aka, Rod Humble). She said she did this because she likes goofy stuff; I think she really did it so she could mark the “Dance with a Linden and/or Hamlet” item off her Bucket List 😉 Whatever her reasons, this has got to be one of the silliest – and most fun – memes she’s done. I have giggled my way through the photos on Flickr and the few other blogs I have read. I can’t wait to read the rest!

Before I start my day with Rod, here’s what we are supposed to do:

Meme Instructions: Pick up a Flat Rodvik Linden from my marketplace store for free. (Or make your own using my image or your own image of Rodvik.) Wear or rez him as you travel the grid. Take him to places you think he might not have seen yet and show him a good time. Don’t forget to leave a link to your post or images in the comments of this post so we can all come by and see where you took him!

My first stop with Rod was the Love Donna Flora event. We paused in the lovely courtyard at the landing point to take the photo above, but as we started down the hill toward the stalls, I thought I heard him mumble something about the lag, so I tucked him back into my inventory. I was happily shopping and didn’t hear another word from him until I passed the Poet’s Heart booth when I swear he whispered, “You look lovely in pink but I think you would look better in yellow.”

So I bought it 😉 And headed home with Rod.

My SL Bucket List Meme: Pocket Full Of Wishes

1 Jade SK

For the last two weeks, Hart Larsson has been teasing us on Flickr and Facebook with his latest skin series, Jade. Yesterday, as announced on the PXL Creations blog, she was finally released. I had fallen in love with Jade the moment I saw her, so my first act upon logging in to Second Life yesterday was rushing over to give her a test drive. And I fell in love.

Trying on this skin had been on my SL Bucket List since I first laid eyes on her. I happily ticked that off the list and am now sporting this flawless skin. In fact, I did something I’ve never done before – I bought the skin in two different shades! I’m wearing the Sunkissed version in the photo for this post, but you’ll be seeing more of Jade in Olive, as well. Oh…and with more than one lip colour and a few different eye makeups, too 😉 What can I say? I was totally smitten and I indulged!

That brings us to Berry’s latest meme challenge – to share our Second Life Bucket List. Here are the instructions:

Share at least 5 items on your Second Life Bucket List and try and complete one of the items on the list this week. Don’t forget to leave a link to your list in the comments below (Berry’s meme) so we all can come by and check it out!

I have to say I don’t have a very long list of things I want to do in SL. The beauty of our virtual world is that we can do pretty much anything we want. However, the main limitation is our own creativity and…well…fear. Sometimes we don’t have the skills and sometimes we don’t have the guts. Sometimes it’s a limitation of resources (i.e., funds, time, knowledge). But if we put our minds to it, we can at least attempt most things on our respective lists.

Mine is short; things like trying on a new skin or outfit are normally short-term wishes. I’m concentrating here on the big ticket items – things that probably within my reach, but take more of the limited resources, skills and courage than I have at the moment.

1. Be a blogger for a special event. There are a few events in Second Life I would love to blog for officially. Things like Relay For Life, The Home Show and Hair Fair. I know there are application processes for these types of events, but I’m not sure where to go to find out when the applications open. I could probably ask some of my fellow bloggers, but I just haven’t done it. But I know I won’t ever even have a chance of fulfilling this wish if I don’t get off my bum and find out!

2. Create poses. As a photographer, I often find myself searching the grid for the “perfect pose”. I can see what I want in my mind’s eye, but flipping through the hundreds of poses I already have and scouring the far reaches of SL and Marketplace are not the ideal solution. I have the Animare pose system on my Marketplace Favourites list (and have had for some time), but it’s another of those things that I just haven’t taken the time to try. Maybe I should just add going to the in-world store to try the system to my list instead. I may not be able to create the ideal pose, but perhaps I could at least adjust one I already have that is close. UPDATE: My naughty but wonderful friend, Tylar, bought the Animare system for me! So now I have no choice but at least start tweaking. I’ll give her a huge hug as soon as I un-contort myself o.O ♥ My Cherished!

3. DJ in a club. I have been a dancer and a host in clubs since my early days of Second Life, but I have never had the courage to DJ. This one, though, is probably the closest to being marked off my list. I have the software, the music and a brother standing right behind me, pushing encouraging me to “get ‘er done!” I also have the support of the management of the club where I work, along with my friends and loved ones. Right now, the biggest obstacle (other than my fear of Trembling Tongue Syndrome) is my computer. For the last couple of days, my trusty Fernando has been spontaneously rebooting himself. Then doing it again. And again. Until I have gotten to the root of this problem, I can’t see myself taking to the airwaves. Update: I did this! You can read about the aftermath here. I was too freaked out to take any photos during my audition 😀

4. Create a sim that draws people for it’s beauty. I am a HUGE fan of the Second Life Destination Guide. I turn to it often when I need someplace fantastic-looking to take photos. And sometimes I use it just to discover a new place to explore. I would love to have the resources to buy a sim for no other reason that creating a place for others to enjoy. I would want it to be a haven for photographers and explorers, too. I wouldn’t make it commercial – no shops cluttering the grounds – but I would love to have a space where residents could create and contribute to the design. It wouldn’t be carte blanche, but I would love to give some of the amazingly talented residents of SL a place to showcase their work.

5. Have one of my photos selected as “Second Life’s Pic of the Day”. I have no idea what criteria Linden Labs uses in selecting their “Pic of the Day” or even what pool they draw their choices from. But one day, I would love to have one of my photos be chosen. The vast majority I have seen put my own work to shame, but on the rare occasion, I have thought to myself, “Hey! I think my stuff is better than that!” Well…maybe one or two bits of “my stuff” is better than that 😉

And there you have it – my pocket full of wishes. I hope there’s not a hole in the bottom of it for my dreams to slip through.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh – New & Refreshing

1 Fresh

A brand new tattoo. An ocean breeze. The invitation of a calm, cool cove. What do all of these things have in common? They’re all fresh.

The Weekly Photo Challenge invites us to show our definition of the word. I combined this lovely tattoo from chocolate atelier (a TGGS hunt prize) with this refreshing scene to bring you my interpretation.

Though a tattoo will fade in time, the weather will cool and the skies will darken, on this afternoon they all combined to give me a fresh outlook across our island. All that’s missing is a sparkling cocktail and the company of my sweetheart and it would have been perfect 😉

Be sure to check the comments of this post to see what other bloggers have done to show you their version of what Fresh means.
