Why Buy The Cao…

1 Being Cao_006

I have a friend who is a Cao. She is a beautiful, smart, funny (retired) model who makes me laugh and cry when I read her blog. From her antics with Spanx to the tales of her Jack Russell Terrorist and her Date Night escapades to her touching, insightful posts about life, love and death, her blog is one I never miss.

As I mentioned, she is a retired model, so her unique shape is sacrosanct. She created it to achieve a look that set her apart in the Second Life fashion world. Couture is not my forte, so while I am unschooled in Second Life modeling practices, I have no doubt it is similar to the stories we hear about RL fashionistas: fiercely competitive with some models doing anything to get ahead. From what I have read in Cao’s blog, there are many models who are friends and friendly with one another – even helpful – but there also those who, sadly, try to sabotage others.

During Hair Fair, Cao – who has been personally touched by the loss to cancer of someone she loved – offered up her shape to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to Wigs For Kids. During the auction, someone in the modeling community threatened to steal and sell her shape. This upset her on more than one level – yes, her shape certainly assisted her in her modeling career and to see it hawked on Marketplace for sale to anyone with a few Lindens was distressing, but more so it was the fact that this person would potentially take away bidders for her shape and real dollars for this wonderful charity. So she changed the rules – anyone who bid at least 1000L (her original opening bid) would receive a copy of her shape AND she would contribute an additional 10,000L of her own to this cause. And she ended up contributing 56,502L to Wigs For Kids through this unselfish exercise.

Can you see why I love this little Cao? And why I “bought the Cao”?

Rod Rocks!

Rod DJs with me

Last night, after recovering enough music to put together a set, I did my 2-4am DJ gig at Breaking The Rules. It was an interesting set, to say the least. It seems my SAM didn’t like a lot of the music I had chosen and kicked out about half of my playlist. So I was DJing on the fly! He also didn’t want me to speak, apparently – he rejected my voice over music for my first two planned mic breaks. I finally got him to accept “I’ve Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts” for my voice over, only to forget I had shoved my microphone on top of my headset so nobody could hear me. Sighs…one of those “If it could go wrong” kind of nights!

But then, I realised I had a secret weapon – something to watch over me and keep the remainder of my set running smoothly. Would anything in Second Life dare to misbehave if I dragged out my good friend and one-time date, Flat Rod?

Rod DJs with me and Hope

Hell no! The rest of my set ran smoothly, although I’m not sure what happened to my host, Hope’s hair when he appeared o.O I guess maybe Rod only protects the one he’s closest to!

I did have one moment, though, when I was a bit suspect of Rod’s motives…

Rod DJs with me and perves

Was he keeping an eye on the DJ board to see what was being played, or was he checking out our bums?

For once, Rod was mute. Probably for the best – the way his eyes were popping out of his head, I suspect the latter 😉

Bali reBourne

Bali External 1

It’s been a hectic day. I woke up to a failed external hard drive – the one I store my music for DJing on – and I had a set to do tonight. As I was frantically trying to find some music so I didn’t have to give up my slot, I checked my email and found an offline message asking me if I would like to review the newest realease from reBourne. I immediately began salivating – I have long been a huge fan of Danny Bourne’s work and I was going to do this, come hell or broken hard drive!

After securing a new drive, transferring what music I had on my desktop computer and loading my SAM, I headed in world with a couple of hours to spare before I had to DJ. I tp’d directly to the model of Bali. Before the skybox even rezzed fully, I was gasping in awe. You see, I fell in love with Danny’s The Dome last year at the Home & Garden Expo and I honestly didn’t think he could top it. I actually made more than one visit to see it, dragging along a builder friend at one point to “ooh” and “ahh” over that scrumptious abode. Sadly, it wasn’t within my prim budget and I had to pass it up. But I knew one day I wanted to own a reBourne home.

Once the house rezzed completely (and rather quickly) I began taking in the details. The shimmering pool, the tranquility of the setting, the Balinese influence on the more modern interpretation – I just allowed myself the luxury of camming around the house, getting a feel for it. And then I started noticing the details. The perfection of the mosaic tiles lining the pool, the magnificent texturing of the rocks and stones, the hard lines of the roof softened by the shingles and canopies. Everywhere I looked, there was something else to make my breath catch in my throat. I was totally enchanted.
