Berrywinter’s Monday Meme “Hope”: Bending Over Backwards

1 Crystal Tears Merged S

It is a horrible feeling. When you have bent over backwards, cried until the tears seem to have forged a permanent track down your face and still you keep getting hit by heartache and disaster. When you dread getting up in the morning, filled with fear of what calamity you may face today. It is a point in your life when you wonder if there is ever going to be a ray of sunshine amidst the clouds that seem to perpetually hang over your head.

And yet, each day you do get up, you do face the challenge and you do go on. There is only one reason we find that strength, and that is through Hope.

I took this photograph yesterday, planning to use it in my blog, but not sure what I would write about. However, our dear friend Berry, who normally sets our Monday Meme has had a very painful experience. She didn’t feel up to posting a Meme topic herself this week, so her dear friend, Winter Jefferson, did it for her. The photo seemed to be fitting.

This challenge is, in his words:

Take a few moments on your blogs or chosen social media to tell us about a time you faced your own personal nadir. When were you at your lowest point? How did you pull through and triumph to become the dazzling specimen of humanity you are today? When you reached out… who was there to help you back up again?

What gave you hope?

Please, share your stories with Berry and the community – link them in the comments below (of this post) when you are done. Words, pictures, even interpretive dance. Let’s see what we’ve all gotten through, and maybe we can celebrate that the person on the feeds next to you is stronger than you ever imagined.

As Winter says, this is very personal. It is a meme that I could have easily skipped, if I had let my own fear stand in the way. You see, I have skipped a few memes when I found them “too hard.” They have usually involved interviewing someone, and that meant that I had to ask someone for help. I’m not good at that; and it is a trait that has nearly left me helpless – and hopeless – on more than one occasion. But this time, I am going to share – to try to give back a bit to Miss Berry, who has been such a positive influence on me, and so many others in Second Life. So she can see that there is hope, despite the feeling that it has somehow disappeared.

Black & White Portrait Challenge: Don’t Kill Me, Rwah!

1 Waiting Once Again Sm

I am going to be in SO much trouble for this! Since I first discovered her blog several months ago, I have been a huge fan of Rwah’s black & white photography. If you read my blog regularly, you know this. I mention it often. She is one of the best Second Life Home & Garden bloggers out there, in my opinion. Yes, she occasionally sneaks her avatar in the photos, but she mainly concentrates on the “stuff.”

I think it’s time for her to show off her skills with portraiture. So when I saw Miss Berry’s meme this week, I thought I would take my life in my hands and issue a challenge to Rwah: I wanna see you do this meme!

Just so she (and you) know what I am asking her to do, I’ll be happy to help:

Meme Instructions: Share a black & white portrait (headshot) of your Second Life avatar. You can post a raw shot or process the image as much as you like. Don’t forget to leave a link to your image in the comments (of this post) and also share it in the Blog Memes flickr group.

In keeping with Berry’s format and a lot of others I have seen, I am including the colour version of my B&W photo.

1 Waiting Once Again 1

I’m actually not sure which I prefer. I do like the close crop of the B&W but I really am smitten by the wistfulness the pose in the colour version seems to add. I probably should have chosen a picture of me running for my life, because that’s what I’ll probably be doing when Rwah sees this 😉

I’m off now to buy a pair of running shoes and book a flight to a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with The Netherlands!

Pretty stuff I’m wearing:

Second Life Helpful Tools Meme: Gadgets & Stuff

1 Helpful Tools Meme - Interface 1

Oh hai there! I’ve not completed either of Berry’s memes since she came back from her holiday break. Naughty, lazy, lost all of my practical joke photos when my external drive crashed – take your pick for my reason(s) why. But since I was in SL when Berry posted her latest AND I was taking photos already, I decided to hop on right now before I get out of the habit completely.

This week she has asked us to share our viewer interface and any HUDs we use. In her words:

Meme Instruction: Share a screenshot of your viewer setup and/or a list of tools/HUDS you guys use to make your Second Life experiences better. Don’t forget to leave a comment in this post with a link so we can all come and stalk you. If you share a screenshot, feel free to share them in the Blog Memes flickr group.

I am using two photographs – one to show my viewer interface (above) and a separate one to show my HUDs. I did this so that the screen is less cluttered. Also, when shooting photos that show the interface and/or HUDs, the shots default to a low resolution setting. I decided just to use the raw shots, rather than going to the trouble of prettying them up. So this is exactly what came out of the can!
