Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details – “2304 Rain” Revisited

One does a whole painting for one peach and people think just the opposite – that particular peach is but a detail.

Earlier in the week, I blogged a beautiful place in Second Life called “2304 Rain”. While it is a visually stunning location, I am, primarily a portrait photographer. It’s rare that I take a photo that doesn’t include a human being. While I love to find beautiful locations for my backdrop, I always focus on the person, whether it is me or someone else.

For this challenge, I could have chosen to take a photo that had a person (me) as the subject and rework it so that the focus is the location. In this shot, the location is the star – the detail is drawn from the way I have cropped and processed the picture.

This is the raw shot:

And this is my take on “Lost in the Details”:

I was drawn to the floating umbrella when I picked this spot to shoot. It was a small detail in the original, but in the reworked image, it’s now the star. The umbrella has become my peach.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward

I’m at an uncertain point in my life right now. I’ve lived in Australia for 13 years, and I’ve been employed by the same company since the first day I was eligible to work here. In two weeks time, I’ll know if 1) I still have a job there and 2) if I do, whether it is the job I want. I have to look forward, planning contingencies in case my world is turned on its head in the near future.

Although I’ve lived in cities all of my adult life, I grew up on a farm. Part of the future I dream of is a return to the country life – the quiet, interrupted by the breeze whispering through the wheat fields, the cry of a dove, the orchestra of crickets and cicadas in the depth of the night. I’m just not ready for that change yet.

I took this photo in one of my favourite locations in Second Life. It’s a place called Far Away, and I’ve blogged photos from this spot before. For this post, I went back to that series of shots I took a few months ago, knowing I would find an image there to reflect my uncertainty. Of memories of the past that may someday be my present.

And always looking forward.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Kiss

This is my first attempt at the Weekly Photo Challenge. I thought this would be an easy one, but was I wrong! Choosing a photo of a kiss proved to be more difficult than I had imagined.

I didn’t want to share a “typical” kiss. I wanted to show a moment of closeness and intimacy that a kiss promises. The thrill and flutter, the delectable shivers one feels when lips touch flesh. A private moment that makes the world go away.

1 Kiss wm

Oh, when you kiss me
I know you miss me
and when you’re with me
The world just goes away
The way you hold me
The way you show me
That you adore me
Oh, when you kiss me
