Weekly Photo Challenge: From Above – A Bird’s Eye View

This week’s Weekly Photo Challenge is to take a photo from a different perspective – from above. I must say, I spent a lot of time today looking around some amazing places in Second Life, trying to find a shot from above that I thought would be something special. Alas, I was still trying to find the perfect location when it was time to go to work at Breaking The Rules. I hosted my shift, then was hanging out for a while, thinking I needed to go find something for this challenge.

For some reason, I cammed up, and when I looked down, there was the BTR logo in the middle of the dance floor. It was around 2:30am PST (that’s Second Life time), and there were still several people in the club. I snapped off a few shots, threw in a couple of effects, et voila! A bird’s eye view of Breaking The Rules 🙂

If Wishes Were Horses – My Three SL Wishes Meme

1 Wishing

If wishes were fishes we’d all be throwing nets. If wishes were horses we’d all ride.

Douglas Horton

That is a quote my Mom used quite frequently (although she usually shortened it to just include the horse part. She never liked to fish 😉 ). So I grew up understanding that wishing something wouldn’t make it happen. But that didn’t stop me from dreaming…

This week’s meme from Strawberry Singh is to blog our three Second Life wishes. You can click the link to see Berry’s and be sure to check out the others that are listed in the comments. I’ve had a ball every week reading the other memes!

Here are the instructions:
Share three things you wish for or about your Second Life. They could be things you wish from Linden Lab, things you would like to have inworld, things you would like to do, or any kind of wishes you may have. Remember to leave your link in this meme’s post so others can come by and read your answers as well!

Now, for MY three wishes!

I wish everyone would use a mesh-enabled viewer. For almost a year after mesh hit the grid, I refused to wear it when I was hosting so that people didn’t see me either as a blob or missing large parts of my anatomy. But come on, people! It’s been around for over a year now. I always wear undies under my mesh, but it annoys me when people ask me to change to system clothes when I’m working, just because they refuse to update their viewers! I had someone ask me to change a couple of weeks ago, and for the first time, I refused. You can stare at my bald head, missing legs and pastie-clad bewbies and enjoy the show, or get with the times and see me in my meshy glory!

I wish I could keep my clothes on. No, it’s not what you think!! Sheesh, get your minds out of the gutter :p Recently, I’ve been having a lot of trouble changing clothes. I can add attachments, but clothing layers just don’t seem to “stick”. This includes alpha layers, so I can’t even switch to mesh to be decent enough to leave home. While I’m grateful to no longer be wearing my hair and shoes up my bum, could I at least be able to wear a pair of panties and a bra??? This is just one of several recent glitches that have cropped up. The rest are slightly annoying, but this one is a major grrrr!

I wish people didn’t rush into relationships so quickly. I’m a romantic. I freely admit it. But I’m also a cynic. I see so many people partner – and even marry – in Second Life within a week or two of meeting. They meet, connect, feel that rush of infatuation and immediately join themselves “forever and ever, baby! You’re the only one for me! I’ll never love another!” Then the next time I see them, they’ve split up (often acrimoniously) and have a new partner. No, not just a new boyfriend or girlfriend, but a partner, with the name officially emblazoned in each other’s profiles. I have no problem with people meeting and finding love in Second Life, or any other virtual manner. I also know time seems to be condensed in SL. But please, get to know one another before you make it official. If you’ve managed to stay together for several months (real life months, that is), then consider it. Hell, go for it! I don’t expect permanence in SL any more than I do in reality, but I wish at least that people gave relationships half of the respect they have to in real life in order to make it work – not just give up so easily and move on. You have to nourish a relationship keep it going, so give it some time and make sure it’s what is right for you. Then, I’ll happily embrace your partnership and celebrate your joy 🙂

I’m actually suprised how difficult this meme was to complete. I know there are annoyances that we all suffer, but overall, I’m pretty happy with Second Life.

Now, please excuse me…I’ve grabbed my fishing net and my steed awaits!

What A Surprise!

I’ve spent a LOT of time today on my post for tomorrow (it’s time sensitive, so you’ll have to stay tuned for more details *wink*), but I still wanted to post something today. Since I’ve been playing with Photoshop, I’ve been going through a lot of my old raw shots and screwing them up experimenting with them. I found some photos I shot at Image Essentials. That was a busy week for me, and although I processed a couple of photos and posted them to my Flickr page, I never actually blogged them.

So, since I decided I needed a quick post, I opened up the folder, and to my utter amazement, I found one I liked…that I hadn’t touched in any way! I’ve even left it in it’s original crop.

That made me think of a personal challenge Chic Aeon did a few weeks ago – Just One Shot Revisited. This is a personal challenge she used to do and recently did again. I decided to borrow her challenge to make this entry actually have a theme.

And without further ado, here is my “Just One Shot” photograph.

Oh…while I was uploading this picture, I found the two versions I had previously processed already in my media library. I guess I’d planned on using them, then forgot! But, I still think I like this one better 🙂

I know I’ve mentioned in previous posts that Chic Aeon is one of my favourite bloggers. This is my (pathetic) attempt at honouring her and her fabulous work 🙂
