Weekly Photo Challenge: A Day in My Life – Everything You Can Imagine Is Real

I’m going back to the basis for my blog for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week. “A Day in My Life” is a good place to show you a bit about my Second Life. I’m going to try to use photos I’ve not posted to my blog before, although you may have seen a variation of a shot I’ve used in the past. In some cases, my Second Life and real life blend and merge…I think, no matter what anyone says, that’s pretty typical.

So strap on your seat belts, grab your popcorn and here we go!

What day isn’t started without a nice cup of coffee or tea and a cupcake? Those chores will have to wait!

I spend a lot of my day trading messages with my SL sweetheart in real life. He moves from location to location while he’s working. We have a joke that I gps stalk him from the messages he sends me. I do love to see the different places he goes, and if he accidentally turns off his location services from his phone, he’s quick to turn it back on. I never ask him to, but he picks up from questions I ask that his thumb has switched it off. Clever girl, eh?

My photography and blog are big components of my Second Life. I spend a lot of time testing out poses and techniques on myself before I use it for a photo shoot. These are just a few shots of my guinea pig imitation 😉

And always, there’s time for shopping! Just a few pics from my recent skin-shopping adventure and some of the demo skins I tried.

This is the one I chose 🙂

And then, off to work. I’m a shift manager and host at Breaking The Rules, a rock club in Second Life. Trust me, it’s a great job…you get to listen to music, socialise and just get silly!

And then back home again. Time for some quiet contemplation…

…or if I’m lucky, some time with my sweetheart 🙂

And there it is, a day in my Second Life, where everything you can imagine IS real 🙂

Not The Procrastination Meme – The Social Media Meme

This is the blog I meant to do yesterday, before I got sidetracked by my new skin 😀 Strawberry Singh has created a toughie of a meme challenge for this week. I can see now why she put it off last week!

This week’s challenge is all about our social media involvement. I admit I don’t use it a lot, other than Facebook, but I’ve got a few accounts that I’ve dredged out of the murkiest corners of the interwebs to include in this post. I guess now that I’m putting them out there, I will have to start feeding and watering them a bit 😮

These memes are all SL related, so please only share the networks that you use with your SL avatar. It’s ok if you talk and share RL stuff on there (we all do that sometimes). I think it was Facebook in January, 2010

Which social networks are you currently on using your SL Avatar?
Flickr
Facebook Page (Show me you like me, you REALLY like me! 😀 )
Facebook Profile (This will be VERY boring if you’re not my friend. I’ve got the security settings as tight as I can get them, considering it’s Facebook)
Twitter (I have an account, but I pretty much use it to follow the NHL)

Which network is your favorite?
Facebook is not only my favourite, but really the only one I use on a daily basis. I have some serious issues with the security on this site, but it’s where I connect with my SL friends. It was also where I first started posting my photos and received loads of encouragement to start doing photography for others from my mates here 🙂

Which network is your least favorite?
I guess it would have to be Plurk, basically because I don’t really ‘get’ it yet. I hadn’t really used it, but now that Berry has pimped me out, I guess I’m gonna have to start trying to figure it out 😀 And I really only follow on Twitter at this point – I need followers that aren’t hockey-related and would probably freak out if they saw my shameless ass shots 😀

Which network do you have the most amount of connections?
Definitely Facebook. I connect with my friends, my family, and my sweetheart, where we have a never-ending message running 🙂

How/Where do you usually read/use most of your networks?
I use my phone when I’m on the train (excluding that bloody long tunnel!) and at work. My phone is NEVER out of my reach. When I’m home, I tend to use my pc more, but it’s not unusual for me to be doing something on my computer AND have Facebook open on my lil ‘droid 😀

What are your favorite social networking apps? (if applicable)
I use the standard Facebook app for my droid, as well as the Pages Manager. I use the standard Flickr app, WordPress app for blogging on the go (rarely) and checking for comments. And I use TweetCaster for Twitter. Gotta keep up with my Wings!

What do you like most about social networking sites?
I love that I can connect and socialise with my friends without changing out of my trackies or putting on makeup!

What do you like least about social networking sites?
I hate game updates on Facebook! I don’t play games, except for Words With Friends and (lose at) Song Pop, so I really don’t give a stuff if you’ve harvested a world-record pumpkin on your friggin’ farm, thank you very much! I’ve turned off as many of these as I can, but they still creep into my timeline 😦

Do you feel social networks are a good way to promote you/your brand/your work?
I’ve gotten a lot of views of my blog from my Facebook page. It started with friends, but now I’m starting to get more “likes” from people I don’t know. I’ve only been blogging for about two months, so I’m thrilled with any new exposure I get. I do my blog mainly for myself, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy having other people view my work 🙂

What is your main reason for using Social Networks?
For Facebook, it’s to keep in touch with my SL friends and family. For Flickr, it’s to get a bit of exposure for my photographs. For Plurk…well, I’ll let you know once I figure it out!

The photo for this post was taken at Neva River. I jumped on the blogger bandwagon and headed over there tonight. I’m really glad I did 🙂 I’ll be going back before they close it to the public – I barely had time to explore!

The Princess and Her…

Prince? Toad? That’s the question and that’s my quandary for this week’s Single Frame Story. The prompt this week is “watch”. When I posted a photo of this sign on my Facebook page today, a friend decided I HAD to have it in Second Life. So when I logged in tonight, there it was waiting for me 🙂 So I decided to make it a part of my challenge photo this week. Thank you, Stufly! ♥

I took a LOT of shots of this pose. I loved the lighting on this dress with so many different Windlight settings that I just kept switching them and snapping more pictures. Then came the really hard part; selecting one to finish for the blog.

Well, I couldn’t decide (imagine that!). I ended up with two photos using different cropping and different techniques. The theme is identical, though. And I’ll have a hard time choosing one this week. Who knows? I may wimp out and post them both, since I know I can enter more than one 😉
